Pelosi: Sadomasochistic Last Supper Ad Doesn't 'Harm' Christianity

Well Grandma Pelosi is not winning points with this statement. While I agree that Christianity is not harmed by this ad, that is not really the point. How do you think the Muslim world would react if instead of the last supper the ad portrayed Mohammad all leathered up in a sling? So why should Christians not stand up for what we believe to be offensive?

Pelosi: Sadomasochistic Last Supper Ad Doesn't 'Harm' Christianity
By Nathan BurchfielCNSNews.com Staff WriterSeptember 28, 2007(CNSNews.com) -

A controversial advertisement for a San Francisco festival that depicts the Last Supper as a sadomasochism party falls within the First Amendment and is not harmful to Christianity, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Friday.

The ad for the Folsom Street Fair - to be held in Pelosi's district on Sunday and which is partly funded by San Francisco's Grants for the Arts program, which is funded by the city's hotel tax - sparked outrage from Christian groups because it mirrors Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting of "The Last Supper" but replaces Jesus and his apostles with scantily leather-clad men and women sitting at a table adorned with sex toys.

A spokesman for Pelosi told a San Francisco publication yesterday that the ad would not harm Christianity. Cybercast News Service put Pelosi herself on the spot at a news conference in the U.S. Capitol Friday. Here's the exchange between the reporter and Pelosi.

CNSNews.com:"I'd like to get local for a second and talk about what's going on in San Francisco. Your spokesman told the Bay Area Reporter that the Folsom Street Fair advertisement mocking the last supper would not harm Christianity. I'm wondering if you find the advertisement personally offensive."

"And as a follow up, the city's Grants for the Arts program, funded by the city's hotel tax, subsidizes the fair. Do you think that it's fair to tax everyone who visits San Francisco and stays in a hotel to support the fair?"

Pelosi: "Well that's not really a local question. That's a constitutional question. That's a religious question. That's as big a global question as you can ask. I'm a big believer in First Amendment and therefore, as I said in my statement, I do not believe that Christianity has been harmed by the Folsom Street Fair advertising."

Miller pulls logo from 'gay' Last Supper ad

You know, I have been thinking for the past several weeks that one day extremist gays are going to push to far past the envelope and the straights are going to say enough. Well here we have a good example.

I was listening to this story on the Rick Roberts show this morning and even non-christian gays were calling about how shocked and inappropriate this advertisement was.

Watch out Miller, you have pissed this drag queen off!

But opposition might continue over fetish fair's inclusion of 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence'

Participant in previous Folsom Street Fair, which features public displays of sexual fetishesResponding to pressure from Christian groups, the Miller Brewing Co. is asking organizers of a "gay" street celebration in San Francisco to remove its logo from a promotional poster portraying Jesus Christ and his disciples as "half-naked homosexual sadomasochists."
As WND reported, the poster for the Folsom Street Fair replaces the bread and wine representing Christ's blood and body with sadomasochistic sex toys.

In a statement on its website, Miller said while it has "supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year."
"We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive and we have asked the organizers to remove our logo from the poster effective immediately," the company said.
The annual street event, which includes displays of nudity and sexual activity, is scheduled for Sept. 30. It describes its mission as organizing "world-class volunteer driven leather events, providing the adult alternative lifestyle community safe venues for self-expression, emphasizing freedom, fun and frolic, while raising money to benefit San Francisco charities."

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, told WND the response from Miller came after he called on the company yesterday to pull its sponsorship of the event.
He said he's weighing whether or not to press further with a demand that Miller not only remove itself from any connection to the poster but also pull out of the event entirely.
Donohue explained his group doesn't try to "police every moral outrage" but focuses on anti-Christian provocations.

He points to the Folsom Street Fair's payment to an anti-Catholic homosexual group – the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence – for their performances at the event.
The group, which describes itself as "21st century nuns for the queer," plans a "Last Supper" tomorrow night in preparation for the San Francisco fair:
"There is no better way to prepare your mortal flesh for the kinkiest weekend on Earth than to nourish your bones and boost your spirit with a divine feast: The Last Supper With The Sisters, at Eureka Restaurant ... "
Donohue said Miller's subsidy of the "Sisters" could prompt a boycott and further exposure of what the event is all about, including photographs from recent years.
"This is the most morally depraved, bigoted segment of gay population," Donohue said of the anti-Catholic group.

Concerned Women for America first drew attention to the Last Supper poster yesterday.
The group wants California's elected officials – including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer – to "publicly condemn this unprovoked attack against Christ and His followers."
"We further challenge the media to cover this affront to Christianity with the same vigor as recent stories about cartoon depictions of Muhammad and other items offensive to the Muslim community," said Matt Barber, CWFA's policy director for cultural issues.
Barber pointed out San Francisco taxpayers help foot the bill for the fair by providing police support – to shut down several city blocks and provide security.
A police lieutenant confirmed officers are on the clock during the event, not paid for by the organizers.
The Folsom Street Fair website also lists San Francisco's environment department and its Grants for the Arts –which comes out of the hotel tax fund – as sponsors.
"The most unimaginable and vile acts of debauchery are commonplace during the fair," Barber said.
"Senator Larry Craig was arrested and driven out of the Senate for allegedly soliciting public 'gay' sex, yet during this event the city of San Francisco suspends the law and allows 'gay' men and women to parade the streets fully nude, many having sex – even group orgies – in broad daylight, while taxpayer-funded police officers look on and do absolutely nothing."
Barber encouraged mainstream media to cover the event with cameras in hand.
"There's an unbelievable news story here," he said. "The Folsom Street Fair is reminiscent of biblical Sodom and Gomorrah, and the media should document exactly what the city of San Francisco is allowing to occur – in public – in the name of 'tolerance.'"

No my dear, there are no gays in Iran... not anymore!

Mahmoud says: No Homosexuals in Iran
Posted by GayPatriotWest at 5:18 pm - September 24, 2007.Filed under: Gays in Other Lands
Wonder what the lesbian Sally Kohn was thinking as she was busy listening to one that terrorist-loving tyrant whom she found almost cuddly enough “to turn [her] straight” when he proclaimed that in his land, they “don’t have homosexuals like in your country.
At least this response did not earn the dictator much applause (as he reportedly got for other comments). Instead, Rich Lowry reports, the audience responded with “lots of derisive laughter.”
Pajamas has asked me to write on this. I’ll let you know when that piece is up. Until then, feel free to weigh in with your own comments on Mahmoud’s claim about homosexuals in his land. The piece is now up on Pajamas!.
UPDATE: Maybe Mahmoud doesn’t think they have gays in his land because his government has been busy executing them.

GP Update: Here are some of the gays that never existed in Iran, according to its President.
When I heard Ahmadinejad’s statement that “there are no gays in Iran”, it immediately made me fear for the gays that are there. Hitler systematically erased Jews in Germany, both literally and by erasing their existence in public records and history books.
Any gay or lesbian American that still denies Islamists are targeting gays, and instead thinks President Bush is the enemy, demonstrates the true definition of a ”self-loathing homosexual.”
